When the weather is crappy, summer is over, and you’re ready to set in for the long winter ahead, what do you eat? What makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and forget about all of the things you need to do? For me, it’s a chocolate chip cookie. This particular chocolate chip cookie, in fact. It’s never failed me. It has a soft, chewy interior, surrounded by just ever-so-slightly crisp edges, packed to the brim with melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chips. I wanted to give it a bit of an update, though, as I’ve done in the past so many times. I’ve done rocky road cookies, M&M cookies, and even white chocolate macadamia nut cookies with this recipe. It’s perfect. It is the same every single time. I really can’t say enough for this chocolate chip cookie recipe. It’s been my stand-by for the past two years and even as I continue to test out new recipes, nothing is quite as delicious as this chocolate chip cookie. I know that everyone has a favorite, everyone swears that theirs are the best, but trust me: this is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe in the entire world.
When you have already achieved perfection, though, how do you even begin to think about changing it? I’ll tell you how: with Oreo cookies. I had some that I had managed to not eat on their own, so I thought that it might be a good idea to crush them up and add them into a cookie dough, alongside chocolate chips and white chocolate chips. Believe me, it’s a winning combination. The frosting inside the Oreo melts ever so slightly, while the Oreo cookie remains surprisingly crunchy. The chocolate chips add a little something extra; the milk chocolate matches with the Oreo cookie and the white chocolate matches with the frosting. These might be my new favorite cookie; they’re almost better than the originals. When you bite into one of these cookies within a cookie and taste the whirlwind of flavors and textures, you’ll have to blink twice to make sure you aren’t dreaming! On a side note, I now have a Facebook page, which you can add me on here!
Your ingredients.
Combine your flour, baking soda, and salt.
Beat together your butter and sugars.
Add in the egg and the egg yolk, one at a time, until just combined. Add in the vanilla.
Mix in the flour until just combined, then stir in the Oreo cookies, the chocolate chips, and the white chocolate chips.
Place spoonfuls of the dough onto a greased and/or lined baking sheet, and bake at 325 degrees F for 10-12 minutes, until the cookies are just beginning to become golden around the edges.
Allow to cool completely and try to only eat one!
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 cup milk, semisweet, or dark chocolate chips (whatever your preference)
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 2 cups crushed Oreo cookies (not too crushed - use your hands, not a food processor; about 15-20 Oreos)
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (or 310 degrees F for convection). Grease and or line your cookie sheets.
- Sift the flour, salt and baking soda together and set aside.
- Mix the sugars and melted butter just until thoroughly mixed, then add egg, yolk and vanilla and mix until creamy. Add the sifted ingredients and mix until just blended β donβt over beat!
- Stir in the Oreo chunk, chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips by hand. Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto a greased and/or lined baking sheet, and bake for 10-12 minutes, depending on the size of your cookies and heat of your oven. The edges of the cookies should just start to be turning golden.
- Leave them on the cookie sheet to cool a bit when removed from the oven (this is important as they fall apart if you move them too quickly). Once they cool a few minutes, remove the cookies to a cooling rack to finish cooling. Makes 15-20 cookies, depending on their size.

I am totally making these this weekend. This is brilliant. I was just thinking yesterday that I need to do more with oreo cookies. I sort of want to sub peanut butter chips for the white chocolate ones though because for some reason my husband loves that combination.
Lauren: The reason he loves it is because it’s delicious! π
Sydney put a COOKIE in a COOKIE! oh snap now. They look amazing!
Janaki: Good to hear from you and thank you very much!
Oh my.

I have never commented here but must say that I am all over these. ASAP. They will go perfectly with my week off of running.
Thank you. Who would have thunk it??
Keri: Thank you! These are definitely the cookies for your week off of running!
Oh my gosh! A cookie within a cookie! Oreos are the one food from my past I can not pass up. This is pure inspiration!
Kathleen
Kathleen: Same here!
I’ve made these, and loved them! Now I need to try your rocky road cookies sometime!
Natalie: I hope that you do!
Homina homina homina! Must…make…cookies…
Oh my goodness. I’m trying to lose a few pounds but I think I need to make these ASAP- I have a first birthday party on Saturday, I’ll pawn the extras off there!
Mary: I hope that they go over well!
My first thought when I saw the first picture was, “Oh, god that is beautiful”. I’m going to have to make these as soon as possible.
Emily: I hope that you do! Thank you so much!
Mmmmm! I wanted to make chocolate chip cookies but I didn’t want to JUST make chocolate chip… the addition of Oreos will be amazing. Maybe I should add Oreos to monster cookies…?
Wei-Wei: That sounds like a good idea to me!
What a perfectly wonderful idea. Your cookies look lovely. This is a grand idea to use up past their best cookies. Well done.
@Rhyelysgranny: Thank you so much!
@Kate: It’s a risk I’ve taken over and over again!
Perfect cookie recipe? Yeah probably. The only risk is me eating the dough raw before any of it goes into the oven. I can live with that.

This is going straight to my ‘to make’ list. I’ve made quite a few things from here and i’ve loved it all!!
Tawny: Thank you very much!
Mmmmm, sounds so yummy!
Pretty.Good.Food: Thank you!
I didn’t know you could read minds ! I’ve been so needing chocolate chip cookies, and then you take them to a totaly new level ! Just how am I going to keep the Oreos from my husband so have some for the cookies? Ha ! Have a super weekend!
@Tina: You too! Thanks so much and I hope that your husband can hold back! π
@Dana: Indeed!
@Samantha: What a great description! Love it!
@Kelsey: I know the feeling! Thank you for stopping by!
@Lauren: I definitely think that there would be too much going on with the peanut butter chips if you don’t like a lot of stuff in cookies, in general, but I think the white chocolate pairs well with the Oreo frosting, so that you don’t notice it as much but it really enhances the cookie. I’m glad that they at least came out well!
So that’s what would happen if an oreo and a chocolate chip cookie ran away together and had a love child…
Ha Ha Dana!
I made these as soon as I saw the post! (… and blogged about it.) They are delicious! My husband described them as “chocolate chips holding hands”, haha.
Ahhh!!! Now I have to try these, how can I possibly resist, especially with your idea about oreos. Why did I get hooked on your blog? I better add a few work-out classes to my schedule next week.
I made these this morning, with Lauren’s suggestion to sub peanut butter chips for the white chocolate. I’m not a huge fan of white chocolate, so I thought it would a good twist to it. With that, I think it’s just too many flavors going on in the cookie. One cookie truly is enough per serving. Maybe I’m a simple girl with simple cookie tastes, but this had too much going on. They did turn out perfectly though, so there’s nothing wrong with the recipe, just my tastebuds. π
I was just googling Oreo chocolate chip cookies this morning, but never found anything much to my liking. That is, until I saw your post on bakex3! Your description of them definitely sounds like a clear winner to me
Ovenhaven: Thank you!
Glad to see you updating more often again! This chocolate chip cookie recipe is my go-to recipe as well ever since I saw your original post. I’m making these tonight!
Laura L: Thanks! I’m trying!
Mmmm…I loves me some cookie-on-cookie action! π
Niamh: I’m glad I could provide some for you!
Thanks for another winner. They baked up sooo beautifully. Also I was completely out of flour (I know, right?) so I used all bread flour and it worked perfectly. I had to stop myself from eating more than two.
Laura L: I’m glad that they still worked with bread flour! I have a ton that I should probably use up soon, thanks for the idea!
I took the cookies to work yesterday and everyone who ate one made sure to tell me they were “amazing”, “genius”, “awesome” or just made sounds of food enjoyment. I wanted to give you all the credit! Thanks for posting another awesome recipe…your recipes are always great!
Grace: Thank you so much! I’m glad the people in your office loved them!
biscuits with biscuits in them, I love it! They’re exactly like what I need right now!
Taz: I hope you make a batch! π
So I tried these cookies two nights ago and for some reason I couldn’t get it right. They kept falling and cooked totally flat. I followed the recipe exactly, but it just didn’t work. I think living at high altitude has something to do with it (Provo, UT=4,500 feet), but I’m not sure what to do or change to fix it. Do you have any suggestions?
Alyse: Did you beat your butter and sugars well? Also, is your baking soda more than 6 months or a year old? Other than that, I don’t know much about adjusting for altitude, so that could definitely be it, as NYC has a pretty low altitude and so did Phoenix, where I lived before here. Here is a great article I found about adjusting baking for different altitudes: http://www.swcoloradohome.com/articles/food/020114_b.asp. The best of luck to you and I’m so sorry that they fell flat!
So when my boyfriend and I decided to make chocolate chip cookies, I went to your site first, and when I came across these cookies, we were both sold immediately. The only thing I altered was that I used all semi-sweet chips instead of white chocolate, because I’m not a fan, and I added 1 really mushy banana. OMG. They are so glorious. It’s really like cookie crack. So thank you very much for being so awesome and for posting such accessible, creative recipes!
Gabrielle: A banana is a fantastic idea! I’m glad that you enjoyed them!
Thank you so much for being so sweet!
These cookies are AMAZING! Thanks so much for the recipe. One question though – you say it makes 10-15 cookies? I had over 50! Do you just make them really large?
Jill: I made them huge, yes! I think I probably got about 20 cookies.
Oops I meant 15-20, not 10-15.
you have some of the best cookies recipes ever!
Kwanster: Thank you very much!
you have some of the best cookies recipes here!!
I made these for a party and they were a hit! I took a lap around the house and they were gone by the time I came back to have one myself
Gabrielle: The pros and cons of great baking! π
I was excited to make these for like a month, and I made them for Thanksgiving. Me and my family (just four of us) were fighting over them! Absolutely delicious! Thanks for the recipe.

Amazing cookie! Seriously I could eat like thirty.
Leslie: Thank you so much!
I am dying to make these! I’m not a fan of white chocolate though… do you think it would be okay to leave the white chocolate chips out?
Thanks for the recipe!
Laura: Absolutely!
Thanks for this share, they look absolutely amazing. I will be making these when I grab a hold of some oreos for the are not available locally here in our place.
Fajas Colombianas: I hope you get to make them!
I made these as part of my Christmas dessert platters. I thought that they would be a kid friendly dessert, but it seems like the adults love them just as much as the kids!! They’re amazing!!
Melissa: Thank you!
OMG This is such a good idea! I can’t wait to try it.
My boyfriend and I made these cookies with white chocolate, oreos, and mint chocolate for Christmas dessert. My family loved them so much, they are now a Christmas tradition. They came out gooey and perfectly chewy. Thanks for the great recipe!
@Hannah: I bet the mint was so delicious!
@Brianna: I would love to see a photo of them with the red Oreos! That sounds so fun and festive!
I just made these and for some peculiar (but awesome) reason, i ended up with around 40 good sized cookies! the first two pans didnt cook correctly, but that was a fault on my part. they were good anyway π I made using winter red oreos and the cookies came out interesting lookingg haha nice recipe.
Hi Sydney
Thanks for the recipe. I found it whilst “googling” for good chocolate chips recipe, intended to be my wedding favours. I baked these yesterday and it was delicious. Just wondering.. do you know how long these cookies will keep for in an airtight container?
Carmen: Congratulations on the wedding! I think that they would be fine in airtight containers for a week – you can even keep them in the fridge and just let them come to room temperature before serving. They freeze quite well, too, and you can probably keep them in the freezer for 2 or 3 weeks in an airtight container, and again, allowing them to come to room temperature before serving.
Thanks Sydney.. Will try that and let u know how it goes
Oh Sydney! I’m sending some of these to Hub once he ships off to Afghanistan!! He is going to love me forever!! Thanks!!
Genevive: I’m sure that he already does! Thank you and your husband for your service!
Those were the best cookies I have ever had! God Bless you : ) Thank you so much for the recipe!
Genesis: You’re too sweet!
Good Lord…
You have created a cookie singularity.
We are all doomed.
John: If these cookies bring about the apocalypse, I think it would have been worth it.
I just wanted to say that I was skeptical when you said these were the best cookies ever because everyone says that about their chocolate chip cookies. But I must say, I made these tonight, and they are BY FAR my new favorite cookie. I will be making these cookies for years to come. You could make fortunes selling these!!!!
Ashley: Thanks! I’m glad that you’ve become a believer!
Sup Dawg – I put a cookie in your cookie so you can enjoy while you enjoy – thanks for that
@Tommy: The pleasure is all mine.
@Amanda: I’m glad that my site could convince her!
Showed my suitemate your blog for cookie inspiration and she made these π They were delicious!
This are next on my list of things to bake… looking forward to next week when I try them out!
I tried these cookies a few weeks ago, and found them to be much too sweet for my taste. I tried them again today, since I enjoyed the concept, only without the white sugar. It didn’t really make a difference to the texture or baking performance, but it made the cookies more balanced, in my opinion. The Oreo creme and white chocolate easily make up for the loss of the white sugar, and create a nice contrast between the slightly plain cookie, and the pockets of extra sweetness you get with each bite.
Kevin: I’m surprised that it didn’t change the texture of the cookies, but I’m glad that you found a way to make them your own!
Wow! These cookies are to die for! My friend shared this recipe with me and I have to stay I am pretty sure my life would not have been complete without trying one of these delectable treats! People (and I) couldn’t resist going back for more. In fact, I had to find an excuse to make another batch and have more.
This is a must-have cookie recipe that should I’m include a warning on them that says “CAUTION: these cookies are dangerously delicious! You will definietly be finding yourself having more than just one.” Trust me if you are in for a tasty chocolaty treat this is what you ar looking for. Enjoy!
Alexandra: I’m glad you liked them so much – thanks for the glowing review!
These are THE BEST cookies I have ever eaten in my entire life! I’ll definitely be making these again & again & again!
LOVED THEM!!
Sarah: Thank you!
Made these tonight–they were delicious! So incredibly easy, and yet much much better than a plain chocolate chip cookie. They are very rich and heavy, so you may want to keep them small. Definitely making them for my friends baby shower coming up, thank you!
So I just got this in my StumbleUpon recommended sites for the week, and now StumbleUpon is my second favorite website for introducing me to my new favorite: Crepes of Wrath! These look so delicious. I even read all the raving reviews to prepare my mouth for when I make them this weekend
I plan on baking a couple different batches tonight, and will be taking them to share with the masses at the Bonnaroo music and arts festival! I’ll let you know how it goes! I bookmarked this recipe a few months back, as I think someone from reddit.com posted it. Thanks in advance, Sydney!
Joey: Godspeed! Have fun at the festival – I’ve heard it’s crazy (in a good way)! Thanks be to Reddit!
I just had a quick question about the recipe. first off, when you say the butter should be melted do you mean all the way or just softened. Second off, how many sticks of butter is need to make the 3/4 cup. thanks so much for the help!
@Zack: Melt the butter completely (then let it cool a bit), and 3/4 cup = 1 1/2 sticks.
sounds like a great easy recipe, can’t wait to try it. Thank you Sydney!
@Trina: You’re very welcome!
I had a row of oreos left over and decided to make your oreo fudge bars this afternoon (currently waiting for them to cool!) but next time I will definitely have to try baking these! The first picture looks amazing, and I’m sure the taste is even better.
@Katie: Congrats on having the will power to actually have leftover Oreos π

I’ve made these cookies a few times now and everyone LOVES them! Very simple to make and not prone to burning (which I tend to do to most cookies)! Also, I found that I’ve gotten 24-32 cookies out of this recipe, but that’s good because it means more to share/eat. Thanks so much for the recipe and I’ll keep coming back for your fabulous dessert recipes!
I’m glad you get a lot – they go fast!
I decided to make these for several functions these weekend, so I 1 1/2 the recipe. I thought it would be fun to use the Halloween Oreos. They turned out great. Little pockets of orange goodness. I can’t wait for reactions from everyone!
This is also the first time that I’ve responded to a blog–lucky you!?!
I love the look of those fun Halloween Oreos! And thanks for commenting – I am truly honored!
We tried the original recipe at first but decided that it tasted to much like a chocolate chip cookie and wanted it to taste more like the cookies at burger king. So instead of chocolate chips I put an extra bag of white chocolate chips and for a doubled recipe put one and a half boxes of oreos in, They were good the first time i made them but with just white chocolate chips it taste alot like the oreo chunk cookies at burger king.
