Grown-Up Lime Ricky

I made it to San Diego for BlogHer 2011! I went over to the Knorr USA kitchen yesterday, and I’m really excited to get cooking on Saturday morning. If you’re also here for the conference, stop by the Knorr booth at 11 AM on Saturday for the live cook off. Marco Pierre White will be there, so I’m going to try not to let my nervousness throw me off too much! It’s actually 5:30 AM right now – between my excitement and the 3-hour time difference, I don’t think I’ll be getting much sleep this weekend!

Who doesn’t remember lime rickys from when they were a kid? A lime ricky may also be known as a cherry limeaide to some of you – either way, they are a classic childhood treat, and with the help of St. Germain, you can enjoy them as an adult, too! I’ve recently developed a bit of a St. Germain obsession. If you’ve never had St. Germain, I really hope you’ll pick up a bottle! It’s an elderflower liqueur that 1. Muddle the 6 maraschino cherries in the bottom of your mixer. Add in the blanco tequila, St. Germain, and lime juice. Fill the shaker with ice and shake for 30 seconds. Strain twice into two glasses filled with ice, top with club soda, and garnish each glass with 2 maraschino cherries and 1 lime wheel. any cocktail absolutely delicious. It’s naturally a bit sweet, so you don’t need to add simple syrup to whatever drink you add it to, and it even smells heavenly! If you’re bored with your usual liquor cabinet offerings, a little St. Germain can really spice things up. I promise that I’m not being paid by them – I just really love the stuff! This grown-up lime ricky will make you feel like a kid again (possibly in more ways than one), and it’s easy to make a big pitcher of this cocktail for parties, too! I used maraschino cherries for a typical lime ricky taste, but you can use fresh cherries for a more refined taste. This is now one of my favorite summertime cocktails, and I know it’ll be one of your favorites, too.

Good luck tomorrow! Show them what NY (and NJ!) brings to the table

I love lime Ricky’s – never knew there was supposed to be cherry in them – but I also love elderflower and I think I am going to have to make this. Bookmarking!

  3. I never tried cherry with tequila. From the looks of it, I must have missed half of my life (lol). Kidding aside, I want to prepare one for me and my sweetheart on our anniversary.

Ste. Germaine is a STAPLE of my liqour cabinet. I have some killer cocktail recipes with it, let me know if you want them. I think it was used a lot in prohibition-era cocktails, which are a small passion of mine.

Best of luck tomorrow Sydney! You’ll be fabulous! Another drink I can’t wait to try. We finally had the watermelon margaritas last weekend while the boys were at my step-moms – YUM! My sweet hubby actually went out and bought us the food processor he coveted from your post…so lovin’ it!
